trail, footbridge, railway bridge
The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific reached Great Falls from the east during 1914, as part of a planned second mainline across Montana. After crossing the Missouri, a further 65 miles were constructed to Agawam before World War II broke out. The Milwaukee Road used this bridge until operations were abandoned west of Miles City in March 1980. The bridge is now used as a walking bridge for the River's Edge Trail. America's railroads built 32 crossings over the Missouri River, of which 23 remain in use.
