The reason why I chose to write about Dippy Duck is because everyone from Imperial Valley knows that he prevents people from swimming in canals. The history of him is monumental because it tried to survive one of the biggest canals in Imperial Valley, which is called the All American canal. When the Imperial Valley District employees rescued the duck, they decided to name it Dippy Duck. So, they started a water safety program for children and everyone throughout Imperial Valley.
Another reason why this monument is useful is because it prevents children from playing near canals, swimming in the, or being courteous of what is inside them. There are even billboards throughout the city with the Dippy Duck slogan “Don’t swim in a canal. Its cool to swim in a pool.” When people see the billboard they think of the causes and effects of swimming in canals. Also, it is useful to prevent people from swimming in canals because on the Dippy Duck website, it shows real life issues that happen if you decide to swim in a canal. Although the water may look refreshing, Dippy Duck is a reminder to be careful being near a canal, or swimming in one.
In my opinion, the monument might seem valuable to Imperial Valley, but the way how I see it is that it should be valuable to all counties. The reason why I say that is because there is canals everywhere in the nation, so why not help advise the youth throughout the country? The way how I view Dippy Duck is that he is not only a canal safety mascot, but also for rivers, lakes, and even ponds. I feel like children throughout the United States would love the whole meaning of this mascot and would take the water safety programs provided and also take the summer class. The monument of Dippy Duck is valuable because it symbolizes Imperial Valley and it reminds the dangers of those who think of swimming in canals.
