Agricultural development during the last 50 years has been shaped by three constant forces of change: globalization, technology and people. Globalization is the force that is increasingly shifting the focus from native to global opportunities, as world markets become more available. Improved technologies represent forces that are improving the ability to produce and deliver what buyers want and people are applying their influence, either directly as buyers, or indirectly as supporters of the environment in which food and fibred products are made. These three forces don’t work independently, but they cooperate. Additionally, the importance of the three forces has varied in time and in different regions and/or countries, like the one in Imperial Valley.
Agricultural usage in the Imperial Valley is to provide food and jobs throughout the Valley. Foods like fruits, vegetables, and meats. Planted and grown in the fields surrounding the Valley. Foods give us nutrients and are very important for us to live off from. Fruits gives us many essential nutrients that are not consumed daily. Nutrients including potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. Apart from it being essential for our nutrient intake, it’s also yummy and delicious to eat. Vegetables are also very important just as fruits are. Vegetables provide the healthy benefits to our bodies, even if they aren’t so yummy-tasting. Vegetables help our bodies’ energy, immunity, skin, and sight. Meats are the last that are provided from the Imperial Valley, not all the things come from the Valley, but the Imperial Valley does input into agriculture helps out with other states and countries. Meats such as chicken, beef, or pork are rich in protein and a source of carbohydrates. Agriculture is also being used for job development. Providing jobs to locals or sometimes even immigrants, since we are close to the international border. People who need jobs might not have a high school diploma or things that locals have, which jobs in agriculture provided for those in need.
Agriculture is the support of the economic system of any given country. In addition to providing food and materials, agriculture also offers employment opportunities to a large percentage of the population. Agriculture’s value is vital to the source of income of many people. Approximately 70 % of the people directly rely on agriculture as a mean of living. Apart from the means of living, agriculture’s value is also important for international trade, places like the Imperial Valley. Agricultural products like sugar, tea, rice, spices, tobacco, coffee etc. constitute the major items of exports of countries that rely on agriculture.
