Imperial Valley is known by its agriculture, but also for its hard working people. It is one of the region’s most productive agriculture in the world, and it is being worked the whole year. Agriculture represents life, memories, people, and Imperial Valley. Every time you drive from El Centro to Brawley or from El Centro to Calexico you can notice the fields wherever you turn around. Citizens of Imperial County are proud of this lifestyle that has gone for decades. Also that it will still continue to grow, and each time will be more recognized worldwide.
Imperial Valley is on the top five list producers of spinach, potatoes, cauliflower, sweet corn, broccoli and onions of California. This is also the only one that processes Swiss and Muenster cheeses. Alfalfa is number one in agronomic crop, and the majority is ship to California dairies. Sugar beets are a major crop, and Sudan grass used for hay is the third leading field. It is also used for export to the Pacific Rim countries. In Imperial Valley agriculture can run up to twenty-four hours a day seven days a week, and irrigators can work up to twenty hours shift providing water to the fields. All of this can be done for a whole year.
