The Drops are two twin canals out past McCabe School. You would take Austin road all the way down to W Van Der Poel Rd and at that point you keep going straight on a dirt road and you eventually get to the small canals. These canals are not made for swimming, in fact they are made for irrigation for the fields and for livestock that we have here in the imperial valley. Although that is the sole purpose of these canals, teenagers still go out and make use of them by jumping in and floating until reaching a birdge. Sometimes they might even get creative and take floating devices to float down the drop. They have been used for about a decade or longer, The drops have been used for recreation for many years here in the Imperial Valley along with other swim-able canals like the swirlies in Brawley and Highline in Holtville. Canals are not supposed to be used for recreational use. Some canals have strong currents and are way to deep for people to swim in. Some deaths have occurred in the Imperial Valley, which is why we have a character named Dippy Duck that warns children to stay out of canals. Even with this character some small not too dangerous canals like the drops are used for recreation.
