Hau Nui Wind Farm is located on the North Island of New Zealand, about 60 km east of Wellington and 16-18 km directly south of Martinborough. The wind farm was constructed in two stages. Stage 1 (the northern section) was completed in 1996, whereas stage 2 (the southern section) was completed in 2004. Both stages contain Enercon E-40 wind turbines, with the 7 stage 1 units rated at 550-kW and the 8 stage 2 units rated at 600-kW. Altogether the 15 turbines have a nominal generating capacity of 8.65 MW.
