  • Large shallow lake in the South Wairarapa. 70 sq km in area much of it less than 2m deep. It used to seasonally flood up to 16,000 ha of farmland. The Tauherenikau River enters the lake at the northern end. The much larger Ruamahanga River used to enter the lake at the soth-east end, but a massive control scheme now diverts its flow directly to Lake Onoke, 10km to the south. Good fishing and bird watching.
