Snowtown Wind Farm is located in the state of South Australia, for 20 km along the approximately north-to-south Barunga Range about 25-30 km east-to-southeast from Port Broughton, 7 km west of Snowtown, and 140 km NNE of Adelaide.
Snowtown WF was commissioned in two stages: Stage 1 (2008) consists of 47 Suzlon S88/2100 wind turbines, plus 1 Suzlon S95/2100 added in 2011, for a total of 100.8 MW. Stage 2 (2014) consists of 10 Siemens SWT-3.0-101 and 80 SWT-3.0-108 turbines, for a total of 270 MW. Altogether the 138 turbines are rated at a total generating capacity of 370.8 MW.
Physically, the wind farm is in three slightly separated sections, divided by the Wokurna Road and the Barunga Gap Road, with the turbines in the two farms being 'sort of' intermingled. Stage 1 turbines are placed mostly along the west-side crest road in the northern and central sections, while Stage 2 turbines are in the southern section and east of Stage 1 in the north and center.
