"Manana"/"Normandy Farms" (Old Brookville, New York)

Residence designed c. 1914 in the French Manor style by Thomas Harlan Ellett for E. Mortimer Barnes {financier} on 35 acres. Barnes served as a significant stockbroker of the time. It was later purchased in 1937 by William Constable Breed, Sr {attorney, industrialist}. Breed served as a partner in the firm of Breed, Abbott & Morgan, director of Armco Steel Corp., National Distillers Products Corp., American Rolling Mill Co., and Dictaphone Corp. He was also active in many aid funds with the American Red Cross and with the New York City Bar. He renamed the estate "Normandy Farms". It was profiled in depth in "Town & Country" for July 1930, pgs 36-41.

The two-story, mansard-roofed residence included a tower in a walled garden designed by Anette Hoyt Flanders with plantings supplied by Lewis & Valentine. The estate also had stables and a garage outbuilding.
