The site of a salmon weir operated by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game Commercial Fisheries Division since 1929. The weir is operated by two ADF&G employees from late May to mid-September. The Upper Station system has two distinct runs of sockeye salmon; an early run prior to and including 15 July, and a late run which occurs post 15 July.
This is possibly the site of the Arctic Packing Company's first Olga Bay cannery built in 1889 known as South Olga Fishing Station. The cannery only had a capacity for 250 to 300 cases per day, so it was moved in 1890 to its present location eight miles to the north.
