Notable past owners: Sylvester Smith - highly successful and innovative farmer who also had interests in numerous other professions; Smith was the owner and publisher of the Calico Rock Progress newspaper, and also served as the agent-telegrapher for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Company, which was the means by which he shipped his cattle to market and delivered eggs to the luxury Marion Hotel in Little Rock. Smith was active in fraternal organizations as well, and was a member of both the Masons and Odd Fellows. At its peak, Smith's farmstead exceeded 640 acres in size. Aside from cattle and dairy production, Sylvester Smith experimented with different hays and grasses on his farm, attempting to find the ideal blend to maximize productivity.
