Church of Sts. Cyril & Methodius and St. Raphael Rectory

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 41st Street, 502

5-story French-Gothic church rectory completed in 1903. Designed by George H. Streeton, who also designed by adjoining church structure, it has a small 1-story connection at the ground floor. The facade is of grey Manhattan schist and limestone trim, three bays wide. It is set behind a low stone wall and iron gate; the entrance is in the eastern bay on the 1st floor, under a slightly-larger pointed-arch than the two with windows to the west.

A cornice at the 2nd floor bulges out at the middle bay to support a projecting, 2-story, angled bay window in limestone. On either side of the projecting bay the end bays have pointed-arch windows on the 2nd & 3rd floors. There are similar windows at the 4th floor, with slightly-narrower paired versions at the middle bay, above the projecting portion below, which is capped by a band of panels above modillions. A cornice and arcade of blind pointed-arches tops the 4th floor, with a wide triangular gable on each facade of the top floor, pierced by a paired-window dormer with decorative triangular pediment on each facade. Gothic finials mark the low end corners of the gables.
