Excavated in 1939 by Schaeffer the postern was a secondary passageway behind the tower, in the 15th - 14th century city gate complex. The Postern Gate is a corbeled vaulted doorway cut into the glacis located immediately south of the tower. It led to a stepped underground corridor, turning at right angle within the wall. It was sealed in 13th century bce.
