castle, ruins, archaeological site, Medieval / Middle Ages
A small Frankish castle south of Athikia, probably to be identified with the "Mont Escouve" castle mentioned in the Chronicle of the Morea (another theory identifies Mont Escouve with the Penteskouphi castle southwest of Acrocorinth). The castle was built by the Frankish ruler of Athens, Othon de La Roche and played a strategic role in the siege of Acrocorinth. It seems to have lost its importance after the Crusader conquest of Acrocorinth in 1209.
