Estate home designed by Cross & Cross c. 1922 and built by E.W. Howell & Co. on originally 93 acres of land for Edward Stephen Harkness {capitalist}. Harkness served as director of New York Central Railroad, Southern Pacific Railroad, Michigan Central Railroad, Cincinnati Railroad, Chicago Railroad, and several others. Beatrix Jones Farrand consulted on the landscaping design in 1921.

Purchased by the Payson/DeRoulet family. Payson's father married Joan Whitney; daughter of Payne Whitney of "Greentree" nearby. Currently the home is occupied by the decendants of the DeRoulet family on 7 acres of land; some of the estate was incorporated into the neighboring North Hills Country Club.
