Notable past owners: E. Foster Brown - prominent attorney and politician in Clay county's early history. In 1874 he was elected as a delegate to the Arkansas Constitutional Convention and helped draft the constitution under which the state still operates. A year later he was elected as a state Senator, after which he became prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' second judicial district. After Brown left the area in 1883, the house was purchased by E.V. Sheeks, a successful businessman who operated a number of business ventures in Corning and the surrounding area.
