Bridge 222 is a fine bascule structure composed primarily of brick, granite and steel. It was built in 1896 and acquired the name Aluminiumbrug in 1956, when it was modified to become the first bridge in Amsterdam to feature a low-maintenance aluminium deck. The drawbridge (long since out of action) connects Staalstraat with Nieuwe Doelenstraat and Kloveniersburgwal. Over the years, the area surrounding the bridge has been used as a backdrop for several feature films.
