Historic country manor house circa 1750 located in the Green Spring Valley and owned by a series of old Baltimore families – Cockeys, DeFords, Carrolls, Trimbles, and Batoffs, the present owners. Named for its gigantic oak trees, a few of which remain, Oakdene served as the country seat for the family of Charles Carroll, Maryland signor of the Declaration of Independence. Dating to the late 1700s (at the time known as "Summerfield") and expanded several times since, the Oakdene estate was for two decades the home of Thomas DeFord, Jr., the longtime master of hounds for the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. At the turn of the 19th century, under DeFord's stewardship, the estate served as the original location of the Maryland Hunt Cup. The estate continues to operate as a working horse farm by its present owners, brothers Justin Batoff and Jeremy Batoff, operating under the name Summerfield Stables. The residence is recognized as a historic property in Maryland but is not on the National Register of Historic Places at this time.

The estate has also been featured in various television and film productions. In 2016, it was used in the 4th season of the Netflix series "House of Cards" to represent the family home of Claire Underwood located in the ritzy suburb of Highland Park. TX.
