archaeological site, Medieval / Middle Ages, ancient civilization, ancient ruins
Site of the ancient city of Nazianzos (Latin Nazianzus), home of Saint Gregory of Nazianzus, bishop of his city and, briefly, patriarch of Constantinople in the late 4th century. Apart from the two mounds with some minor remains of ancient walls, little remains on the site of the city. The Bekarsultantürbesi incorporates some ancient remains used as spolia.
