'Chuprene' is one of the largest biosphere reserves in Bulgaria. It is situated on the ridge and the northeastern slopes of Chiprovska Mountain. In the reserve can be observed: beech, fir, spruce, mountain peony and Vitoshko tulip and animal species such as-snake viper crossbill, grouse, deer, wolf and more. In the biosphere reserve has remained the only population of capercaillie.
Chuprene is reserve with Ordinance No.358 from 09.02.1973.
Listed in 1977 on the UNESCO list of biosphere reserves Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB).
