The Paul Hotel

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 29th Street, 32

233-foot, 21-story hotel completed in 2014. Designed by Matt Markowitz, the building is inspired by the mercantile history of the Flower District. The ground floor has a central entry portico with a revolving door. Above, a black metal awning in the form of a radiating spokes, like a wagon wheel, projects from the facade. The 3-bay facade is clad in red brick above a 2-story base of beige cast-stone. The 2nd floor has shallow arches above the window bays, each of which has double-windows divided by black metal mullions. Between the arches are small scrolled brackets on the piers.

The upper floors also have double-windows with black metal mullions. The piers are coursed from the 3rd-6th floor, where the beige cast-stone spandrels are decorated with bas-relief carvings. There is a beige stone band course between the 6th & 7th floors, and another between the 14th & 15th floors. The top floor and mechanical penthouse is set back above a cornice, with a round water tower on the roof.

The west elevation is clad in plain red brick with a painted stone band up the center. The Paul is an Ascend Hotel Collection member. It has 122 guest rooms.
