Universal's Epic Universe is part of Universal Orlando Resort Master Plan announced on August 1st of 2019.
The area is known as the South Complex and/or Sand Lake Road Complex (SLRC) which comprises over 800+ acres.
This property will include a Fourth Gate (theme park) with additional hotels to be developed along with new offices, warehouses, support buildings (Sandlake complex), infrastructure improvements and a transportation intermodal system.

The property originally encompassed over 2100+ acres & was formally owned by Lockheed Martin who developed much of surrounding area via there subsidy company "Orlando Central Park".
Universal purchased the property in 1998 and spent millions on land toxic cleanup.
Original longterm plans included two additional gates, 10,000 plus hotel rooms, timeshare resort, golf courses & retail space with two to three-decade planned development timeline. Unfortunately, at the time, Universal was owned by a different parent company, Vivendi had financial issues and decided to unload approx. 1,800 acres of the property in 2003 with a couple of deed restriction.
Later the 2008 recession hit causing an almost $300 million foreclosure on the developer with several parcels being purchased up by several companies with Universal now owned by Comcast went ahead and bought back as much as possible.

Comcast Corp., the parent company of Universal Orlando Resort, confirmed Feb. 3, 2106 it paid $130 million for 475 acres of land "adjacent to an existing theme park" — essentially announcing it now owns the mass of land along Universal Boulevard, even though officials didn't offer additional details yet. This plot is 340.6 AC of the total.
