First marketed as "Seawall West," the now named Senator A.R. "Babe" Schwartz Beach, was a small beach lasting for less than one block at Seawall Boulevard & 61st Street. The Galveston Park Board & Texas General Land Office along with USACE completed a project, in 2015, that used 725,000 cubic yards of sand dredged from the Galveston Ship Channel to create 20 blocks of additional beach along the island’s seawall between 61st and 81st streets. The name Seawall West was repeatedly used as a name for the beach by the park board and the media. It wasn't until later that the beach was offically dedicated as Senator A.R. "Babe" Schwartz Beach.
