C-119 Plane Wreckage

USA / California / Littlerock /
hiking, crash site, airplane, interesting place

This area contains the remains of a C-119 "Boxcar" cargo plane that crashed east of (and not on as some sources report) Pallett Mountain on September 30, 1966. All four crew members on the plane were killed in the crash.

The plane disintegrated on impact, scattering pieces on both the north and south sides of Pleasant View Ridge. Most of the remains are on the north slope. If one continues down far enough he will reach the two engines, essentially at the bottom of the debris field.

The hike to the crash site is moderately strenuous, more so from a trail that starts on a ridge on the way to Devil's Chair from Devil's Punchbowl, the other route from Mount Williamson as a starting point.
