Historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Built: 1799-1800
Area: 5 acres
Also known as: Old Sitka Site (NRHP name); Redoubt St. Archangel Michael Site
Date added to NRHP: 10/15/1966
Other designations: U.S. National Historic Landmark
Notes: This was once the site of the first non-native settlement on Baranof Island. The Russian-American Company settled here and built a number of structures to serve as a trading outpost. Today, no visible traces of the settlement remain; the construction of Halibut Point Road on the east and erosion of land on the west have encroached on the site significantly. A plaque is the only visible clue to the site's existence in history. A 1934-1935 archeological dig revealed historically valuable artifacts on the site.
