High Prairie is a rural neighborhood north of Oakridge, Oregon. It occupies an elongated plateau about 800 feet higher than the town, and is bounded by the canyon of the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River on the northwest, and the ridges of Dead Mountain on the southeast. Most of the plateau is about 2000 feet asl. It was formed by a sequence of basalt lava flows which erupted about 2 million years before the present. According to "Volcanoes of North America: United States and Canada" the vent from which these lavas erupted is probably buried beneath glacial outwash sediments.
