The Robert C. Weaver Federal Building is an office building in Washington D.C.. It serves as the headquarters of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 2000, the building was renamed after Robert C. Weaver.
The building, made of precast reinforced concrete, was designed by Marcel Breuer and was constructed from November 1965 to September 1968 at a cost of $26,000,000. Its ground shape is in the form of a giant "X" with an elongated spine and four bilateral, symmetrical curving arms. Its facade consists of deep-set windows in rectilinear shapes. The first floor is recessed, with load-bearing concrete piers supporting the upper floors around the building. The building has 10 floors and 2 underground floors, a height of 129 ft (39 m), and a floor area of 700,000 sq ft (65,100 sq m). In 1994, the main plaza was renovated to a design by Martha Schwartz.
The Robert C. Weaver Federal Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 26, 2008.
