The five story, 45,713 sq. ft., office building is what remains of the Madison Theater Building. Designed by architect C Howard Crane, the building and 1,806 seat theater was constructed in 1917 for theater impresario John Kunsky. It was the first grandiose theater erected in Detroit as theaters transformed from small utilitarian buildings to movie palaces. Like other movie theaters of the day it contained an office building component, just in case the movies were only a passing fad.

The theater closed in 1984 and sat vacant for a number of years. In 2000, the theater auditorium on Broadway was demolished and converted into a parking lot. The office building was subject of a $12 million renovation in 2011 and a name change to The M@dison. One hundred percent occupied, the building features a 400 person capacity roof top terrace on the fifth floor and a 136 seatauditorium on the fourth floor. A number of high tech firms are included amongst the buildings 27 tenants including, Detroit Labs, Micrisoft, Detroit Venture Partners, Skidmore Studios and the ground level Angelina Italian Bistro.
