The spaces between some of the pavilions at the World Showcase were at one time proposed to be additional countries that were to be part of additional phases opening at the World Showcase. Today much of this space is used for backstage storage for seasonal events and performances. The space on either side of The American Adventure may be a result of the pavilions size. Another space is currently occupied by the World Showplace Plaza. Some possible countries included: Israel, Spain, and Equatorial Guinea (plans were later expanded for Africa at Animal Kingdom).
