  • all my childhood spent in the good old thevara home in Konthuruthy ,on the banks of a canal, connecting the Vembanattu kayal to the backwaters-my beloved home from where in those days I could calmly watch excited tourists water skiing, hanging on to a boat with a rope as the boat sped along the canal into the serene backwaters frilled with the landscape of nettor ,maradu etc.we would wave at them with a great display of our traditional hospitality, welcoming them with a cheer and they would breeze past us in a flurry of waves -self created by the speeding boat.lovely memories of a beautiful life spent in the caring arms of the island of Konthuruthy- which has never asked of me anything in return -like a mother who gives and gives without ever expecting anything from her children...
  • I was borne in the nearby suburb Thevera. When I was a child Konthuruthy island was not much developed compared to Thevara. Earlier there were two wooden pedestrain bridges connecting Konthuruthy to Thevara hence vehicles did not have access to Konthuruthy. I remember the present Thevara market bridge being constructed after which Konthuruthy has vehicle access and developed as part of city. There is a river between Thevara and Konthuruthy where we used to swim but now it has become a stinking gutter. Now I recide at Konthuruthy between the church and yatch club. The roads in Konthuruthy are very narrow and the sound pollution from vehicles and the Allepy rail have spoilt the charm of a silent island. The land price of about 50,000/- per cent in year 2000 has gone up to 10 Lakhs per cent now.
