Former "Cedar Knoll" estate of was built c. 1914. It later became the Long Island Bath & Tennis Club before being sold to Margaret Emerson (Vanderbilt) who was the window of Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt who died on the S.S. Titanic. The estate burned down in 1942. The outbuilding and entry gate, however, still stands intact.

A home was later built on the site for Nicolas Miklos Salgo, the Hungarian-born financier and real estate developer whose properties once included the Watergate commercial and residential complex. Salgo became, in the 1950s, a top aide to William Zeckendorf, who turned the New York firm of Webb & Knapp into a major developer of properties, including the United Nations. Salgo was an Executive Vice President there from 1950-1957, then focused on his own investment and development projects, founding Nicolas Salgo and Co., running it from 1959-1983. He served as Ambassador to Hungary from 1983-86. The modern residence c.1953 was designed by Simeon Heller and built on an 80ft bluff on 6+acres with 270 degree NYC skyline panoramic views, pool, beach access and deep water dock. 6br, 4 and 2-half bath ranch with 5-car garage, and separate guest cottage. His wife Marta Salgo continued to reside there after they divorced, and eventually sold to William N. Bodouva, an engineer and architect who founded William Nicholas Bodouva + Assoc., the aviation and transportation project engineereing and planning firm.
