U-Haul Chelsea

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / West 23rd Street, 532-562

Two 3-story storage buildings connected by a 1-story loading dock. The western building at 562 West 23rd Street was completed in 1921. The ground floor is white-painted brick with glass blocks at the top. The upper floors are clad in dark red brick with white stone pillasters between the window bays. It has large industrial windows, with decorative stone and brick panels between the 2nd & 3rd floors. Extended parapets at the ends of the roof line have additional stone panels and wavy red wooden "ribbons" on top, echoing the ribbon painted on the band above the ground floor that wraps around the building continues across the 1-story section to the other 3-story building further down 23rd Street. This building also has white-painted brick at the base, but without the glass blocks. Its facade is much plainer, with tan brick and most of the windows filled in. The roof parapet is stepped up at the ends and in the center, with a flagpole on top. U-Haul self-storage operates the facility.
