Outsite New York - Chelsea

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / West 22nd Street, 318
hotel, Greek Revival (architecture), 1840s construction

4-story (plus raised basement) Greek-revival hotel originally completed in 1848 as a townhouse for Alfred Martin. It is clad in red brick above a brownstone basement. A high stoop on the left leads up to the notable brownstone entrance enframement featuring a wide entablature supported by fluted pilasters with capitals displaying papyrus and acanthus leaves. The black wood-framed glass double-doors with the long plate glass panels are from the turn of the century; above is a transom. Next to the stoop are two basement windows with criss-crossed metal screens.

The upper floors have three bays of windows, with stone sills and lintels with metal cornices. The building is crowned by a black metal bracketed and dentiled roof cornice from around 1900, with garlands in the frieze.

In 1985, the interior was converted to an inn, called the Colonial House, and in 2023 it was reopened as Outsite New York hotel.
