Daira Mohalla is the residential area of Urdu speaking Muslims, commonly referred to as Pathans, in palakkad. The residents of Daira have their own unique cuisine and traditions. There is also a mosque named URDU JAMA MASJID which happens to be the only mosque in kerala where friday sermon is held in Urdu.The urdu pathani community in daira is close-knit community in which prominent families include the Syeds, the Khans, the Baigs and the Shaikhs. The urdu jama masjid in daira is famous for its urdu sermon and special porridge called "ganji" which is served in the mosque during the holy month of ramadan.
