The c.1859 Italianate-Gothic Revival mansion built for Oscar C Ferris. It was purchased in 1864 by the English born industrialist and banker Percy Rivington Pyne I, a partner at Moses Taylor & Co., he had married Taylor's daughter Albertina in 1855. He became President of the National City Bank, and was a director at the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad and St.Luke's Hospital. He expanded the estate to over 17 acres and made an addition to the residence in 1880, he died in 1895 and his wife moved to Bernardsville, NJ in 1899.

By 1921, the Polish-born sculptor and draughtsman Elie Nadelman bought the property. He sold off acreage during the depression, and lived there until his death in 1946. The modernist sculptor and his wife Viola were avid collectors of worldwide folk art. She lived there until 1962 and it remained in the family until 2009.
