"Knightswood" was the former residence of Mrs. Charles Francis Brush Jr. and her son the Archaeologist Charles F. Brush III. Mrs. Brush moved there after her husband passed, he was the founder of Brush Engineered Materials, a metal producer. Brush Sr. was the famous scientist, inventor and entrepreneur who developed the electric arc light and other electric devices. In 1946, Mrs. Brush with her son sold the estate to James D. Colt, president of the Columbia Combining Company.
