 neighbourhood, residential neighbourhood

Van Cortlandt Village is a sub-neighborhood of the larger Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood of New York City's borough of The Bronx. Named after Van Cortlandt Park, bordered by the Major Deegan Expressway to the west, the Jerome Park Reservoir to the east, West 28th. Street to the south, and Van Cortlandt Park to the north; Van Cortlandt Village is home to a large elderly Jewish community (due to the longstanding residents of the Amalgamated Housing Cooperative and its garment-center union-related population and their descendants), with a less but still significant Irish community as well as a slowly growing Hispanic population.

Van Cortlandt Village has traditionally been classified as part of Kingsbridge Heights; others argue that the two neighborhoods are in a process of separating. However, area residents are generally in agreement that both Van Cortlandt Village and Kingsbridge Heights comprise the eastern half of the larger Kingsbridge neighborhood.
