Cold War 1947-1991, tropospheric scatter station, closed / former military, early warning radar
The site was established in 1957 as a manned Gap Filler radar station built by the United States Air Force, under operational control of Saint Anthony Air Station as part of the Aerospace Defense Command Pinetree Line. Operational in 1975, the site was given designation "N-26B" (later C-26B) and was manned by the 642d Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. It operated an AN/FPS-14 manned Gap Filler search radar.
As a manned Gap Filler base, stations role was to serve as a tripwire station in an area of minimal low altitude radar coverage and notify the GCI station of any unidentified intruders picked up on the unit's radar scopes via troposcatter link.
