The Cinton Chapel was constructed on the site of the former St Casimir Catholic Church, which was the first Polish Church established on Detroit's Westside. The parish was founded in 1882 and a church erected the next year. A much larger church modeled after St Peter's in Rome was dedicated in 1989. This church was replaced in 1961 with a smaller modern building.
The parish was closed in 1989 following years of declining membership. The former church buildings were sold to the Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church.
