23rd Street Studios is a film & video production facility established in 2009 in the former Detroit Electro-Plating factory which closed in the same year. The plant owners hoped to capitalize on the generous Michigan film tax credit legislation enacted in 2008. The owners planned to spend $40 million to develop state of the art sound stages and studio. In 2011, the available tax credits were severely curtailed resulting in a catastrophic drop in the number of productions filming in Michigan.
