In 1629 the building belonged to the schoolmaster Augustine Herp. His stepson John Frederick Sorg became a monk who bequeathed it to the Capuchin monastery in Worms. This monastery sold the house on the 09.02.1671 to the Jews Moses (later called Lemle) "with all copper and wooden dishes", who turned, it with the help of the Jewish community, into a synagogue, school and bathhouse.
