The spring has provided Cambridge with fresh drinking water from the 1600s onwards. Water travels along Hobsons Brook towards town parallel to Trumpington Road. Following its course from farm land North West of Addenbrookes it goes under Long Road, then Brooklands Avenue, then Bateman Street before disappearing underground at the junction with
Lensfield Road.
