academic institution, constituent college
College of the University of Cambridge since 2001. It was founded in 1730 in the East End of London, and moved to Cambridge in 1894. Though it was affiliated to the University of Cambridge as an 'approved society' since 1976, it converged with the University of Cambridge in 2001, thus diversifying from its mostly teacher's training character. It now offers a wide range of different Tripos subjects and has a post-graduate research community.
Homerton is the oldest teacher's education college in Europe.
It has often received a first as the most liberal Cambridge College.
