It was one of the oldest ports in India itself. It was called in 16th century as Masulipatnam port as the masulipatnam came after the name of city was Masauli pattanam. The Dautch people came to India by this port on 1602 AD and they named this port as masulipatnam port that time it was natural port. In 16th century this place is famous for daimond mines for example the famous Kohinoor was found in these mines and given to Nizam king and later it goes to Mugal kings and lastly to Britishers. There was another story that tells why this name come to this place and port. Once upon the machilipatnam faced terrific cyclone in that time a big fish came to shore and died that was as big that with the eye of that fish a gate was made and put up at entrance of port. The city was very prosporous in that time and given so many treasures to dutch as well as britishers. Britishers wanted to made a big port but unfortunately this city faced another terric cyclone in around 1874 AD by the effect of this this port was filled with sand and its depth decreased hence britishers made decision that the port will be at Madras. The port made at Madras and britishers made the Madras as hub of Commanding hub to India.
