6-story Second Empire-style office building completed in 1872. This city landmark building was designed by John B. Snook, with a cast iron facade. Both the long and the narrow elevations feature round-arched windows separated by Ionic columns at the 2nd floor, and by Corinthian columns above, with each story crowned by a cornice. A projecting pilaster marks the north corner. The steep, slate-shingled mansard was punctuated by robust dormers with arched pediments, and the roof line was edged in filigree cast iron cresting. The building had one of the first Otis elevators in the city.

In late 2007, as foundation construction commenced on the new building Reade 57, which wraps around 287 Broadway, the foundations of 287 Broadway were undermined, and the building began to lean precariously. it was shored up with a multitude of supports, and construction was temporarily halted on the new building. The foundation was leveled out and the new building completed, ultimately serving as a structural support for 287 Broadway, whose residents were finally able to move back in in 2012.
