711-foot, 62-story modernist residential building completed in 2017. Designed by Foster & Partners with interiors by William T. Georgis for Aby Rosen, it is clad in a transparent glass curtain wall with faceted east and west facades. These create eight bay windows across both of the wider east and west facades at each floor. Depending on the light, the facade appearance changes from silvery to white. There is a 9-story base fronting Lexington Avenue, with the tower rising vertically behind. The base features the same cladding as the main tower. The entrance is on 53rd Street, situated in a narrow section joining the 9-story low rise to the main tower. Its glass doors are set below a metal-and-glass canopy. The tower’s slender form creates a narrow floor plate, allowing the interior spaces to be flooded with daylight and creating spectacular views across the city from every side.

The building was originally envisioned in 2007 as 610 Lexington Avenue, and was to have included a Shangri-La Hotel. As a result of the economic downturn in 2007, the plans were put on hold in 2009 and the hotel idea was later abandoned. Reborn as a fully residential building, 100 East 53rd finally began construction in 2014.

The building contains 94 condominium units. Floors 3 and 4 feature a host of amenities for residents including a 60-by-15 foot lap pool, a sauna and steam rooms, a fitness center, and yoga and ballet rooms. Besides the lobby, the ground floor and 2nd floor are occupied by two restaurants by Chef Joël Robuchon.
