apartment building, 1928_construction, commercial building
5-story residential building completed in 1928. Designed by L. M. Kaufman, it is clad in reddish-brown ironspot brick with Neo-Gothic detailing. The main entrance is at the east end of the north facade on 58th Street, with a glass door, sidelight and transom set within a keyed limestone Gothic arch, atop two steps. There is a projecting, black metal service door to the right. The rest of the ground floor has a glass, metal, and red tile storefront, with other storefronts continuing along the ground floor of the long west facade on the avenue.
The upper floors are symmetrical, with both sides having double-windows at the end bays, followed by a bay of paired windows, a bay of smaller paired windows, and paired windows at the two middle bays as well. All of the windows have dark-grey metal framing and brick sills. The edges of the west facade have beige stone quoins, and there are three black metal fire escapes. Above the end-bay windows on the top floor there are small stone shields, and in the middle is an elongated stone "plus sign" outline. The roof parapet is topped by a stone coping, stepped up in the middle and at the ends where it is crenelated.
The north facade has paired windows in the center bay (smaller above the 2nd floor), and double-windows in the end bays. The east bay has patterned brickwork between floors, and a black metal fire escape. There is a stone shield above the west bay, and a run of steel vent pipes running up the west edge. The roof parapet is stepped up at the ends, with crenelations. The south elevation is also clad in brick and has four bays of single-windows. The ground floor is occupied by Amore Pizza Cafe, Four Seasons Beauty Spa, and Gugush hair studio in a small, 1-story extension at the south end.
