Central Park Tower (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / West 57th Street, 225
 skyscraper, condominiums, under construction

1,550-foot, 95-story modernist residential/commercial building completed in 2019. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture for Extell Development Company and Shanghai Municipal Investment Group, the building is designed with a cantilever over the neighboring historic Art Students League building. The use of this building's air rights allows the Central Park Tower to rise to its projected height and preserve the historic structure. Developer Extell began acquiring properties and air rights for the tower in 2005. The first seven floors are anchored by a Nordstrom's department store, resulting in the tower first being unofficially known as the Nordstrom Tower; it was officially named Central Park Tower during construction.

The building is the tallest by roof height in the United States, surpassing the Willis Tower in Chicago. The original pinnacle height was to have been 1,775 feet, one shorter than One World Trade Center in deference, but the ornamental spire was eliminated from the design, leaving the official height at 1,550.

The tower is clad in a curtain wall of blue glass. At the 7-story base (which itself reaches 280 feet) there is an undulating wall of fluted silvery glass on both 57th & 58th Streets. The tower is set back on the north, west, and south sides from the base. On the north facade, above the base there is a 5-story section of fluted silver glass before the main glass curtain wall with steel framing begins. The Nordstrom entrance is on 57th Street, with the residential entrance on 58th.

The 28-foot cantilever at the east facade begins 300 feet off the ground, or about 200 feet above the roof of the Art Students League building. Along the east facade, the cantilever is accented and divided into four sections by three horizontal bands. This facade narrows via a setback at the south end just a few floors above the 3rd horizontal band, with a final small setback on the east side near the crown. There are also small setbacks at the northwest and southwest corners about halfway up the tower, creating notched corners on the higher floors.

The tower contains 183 condominium units, above the Nordstrom store and residential amenities floors. It is officially the tallest residential building in the world.
