788 Ninth Avenue (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / Ninth Avenue, 788
 apartment building, commercial building

6-story residential building completed in the 1870s with five floors as part of a row of six matching tenement buildings. The 4-bay facade is clad in orange-red brick above a ground-floor with a round-arched entrance at the north end (with a recessed glass door behind a metal gate) and a white-metal and glass storefront to the south.

The upper floors have narrow, projecting brick piers separating the end bays from the middle two bays, each with a single-window with a brownstone sill and lintel. There are serrated brickwork courses below the outer-bay windows at the 3rd and 5th floors. The edges of the 5th floor are also framed by projecting brick pilaster with vertical grooves; the southern one is shared by the facade of the adjoining building. A rust-red metal fire escape runs down the middle two bays of the facade. A 6th floor was added sometime in the 1900s, with brick of a more grey shade. A brick roof parapet caps the facade. The ground floor is occupied by Badshah Modern Indian restaurant.
