The Manhattan School (PS35)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 52nd Street, 317
 school, high school

4-story school completed in 1967. Designed by Arthur G. Paletta for the NYC Department of Education, it is faced in concrete. The ground floor has brown granite piers dividing the facade into eight bays. Both of the end bays are narrower and have entrances with sets of three steel doors; the two middle bays have roll-down metal gates, and the other bays have textured concrete panels. At the top of each bay without the metal gates are patterned metal screens.

The upper floors have narrow bays of recessed single-windows; the piers are slightly angled toward the front, where they each have a vertical groove. The spandrels are simple concrete squares. At the end bays, the upper floors have a 3-story grid of much smaller window panes sets in beveled concrete framing. There is a 1-story extension at the northwest corner, fronting a plaza on 53rd Street.
